ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A couple from Zanesville is bringing people in the community together to help collect items for Hurricane Florence victims.

Their focus though is the smaller towns in North Carolina such as Chinquapin, that are not receiving as much attention. Marc Kendall and his wife retired and moved to North Carolina at the end of 2016. Their son who was in the Marine Corps lived there and the Jacksonville area became a second home.

“Not expecting anything like this but the little church we attend is about 35 minutes from our home but it’s an old little country church out in the middle of farmland it reminds me a lot of Muskingum County,” Kendall said. “They were just devastated from the flooding.”

Due to the mandatory evacuation, Kendall and his wife came back to Zanesville to wait it out and decided to do something to help. They began collecting anything and everything from cleaning supplies and tarps to water and clothes to help the little towns that really need help.

“Three Parishioners have totally lost their homes, all you can see is the rooftops. The farmers still had all of their soybean crops in the fields so those were completely covered, those are gone. The tobacco is gone. The peanuts are gone. They managed to get some of the corn in before the storm it but there was a lot of devastation to that little area,” Kendall said.

If you are wanting to contribute, they are located at the old Ohio Power building on 4th street downtown, they will be there Monday, September 24th from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. They plan to head down to Jacksonville on Tuesday. Kendall wants people to remember that this will take a long time to recover from and to keep them in your mind and in your hearts.
