Husted discusses State Issue 1

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Community leaders, along with Secretary of State Jon Husted, are speaking out against State Issue 1.
The Candidate for Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted spoke at a press conference in Zanesville Friday concerning the issue. If passed, State Issue 1 would reduce the penalties for crimes of obtaining, possessing, and using illegal drugs. Husted said if the amendment passes, he feels the drug issue in Ohio would get worse.
“If you make it a misdemeanor, treat it like a parking ticket, you create a safe haven for drug dealers, and when you create a safe haven for drug dealers, you fuel the addiction fire that’s already burning in this state,” said Husted.
Husted said the way to fight the drug issue in Ohio is by passing common-sense policies and not by passing more liberal drug policies.
“We need common sense drug policies that involve consequences and treatment, getting the drug dealers off the street, the addicts into recovery and families hope,” said Husted.
For voters heading to the polls, State Issue 1 will be on the ballot for the November 6th general election.
