ZANESVILLE, Ohio – One of Ohio’s U.S. senators and a U.S. congressman visited a local restaurant in Zanesville on Friday to discuss the impact of the Working Families Tax Cut Plan.

Senator Jon Husted (R) and Congressman Troy Balderson (R) were joined by several restaurant owners at Giacomo’s Bread & More to talk about the legislation that eliminates taxes on tips and overtime. The tax cut plan also created a $2,200 tax credit per child for working families. Husted says that these trips are an important part of his work as a senator.

“And so you go off to Washington, you make these policies, but you have to go back and talk to people at home about what the impact is. How it impacts them, how it benefits their business, and that’s why we’re here today, because it does have an extremely big beneficial advantage to particularly restaurants and people who are on tip incomes,” Husted said. “And then I also want to listen about what comes next.”

Adrian Adornetto is the owner of Giacomo’s and Adornetto’s in Zanesville and was excited to host the roundtable discussion. For Adornetto, the event was not only an opportunity for the business owners to hear from their legislators, but also for them to be heard by our nation’s top lawmakers.

“It’s been great. A lot of talking, a lot of dialogue and I have other restauranters here from the Columbus region,” Adornetto said. “Full disclosure, I’m the board chair of Ohio Restaurant and Hospitality Alliance. So, I kind of have two hats I’m wearing today. So, some of my board members are here and other people, so we’re just kind of voicing our concerns and what we do for the industry.”

Husted also discussed a bill he sponsored called the Upward Mobility Act, which aims to reform public assistance programs by ending what he calls the benefits cliff. This cliff is when an increase in income results in a massive financial loss, in the form of benefits like SNAP.
