I-70 Construction Creates Delays

Zanesville-Motorists can expect more closures on Interstate 70 if you are traveling in Muskingum County.
The Ohio Department of Transportation will restrict I-70 to one lane in both directions overnight Thursday for the Maple Avenue flyover deck pour. Motorists can also expect intermittent complete closures of the roadway. The State Street eastbound onramp will also be closed from 9pm until 5AM.
“ Basically right now, we are not looking at too much night shift work as we move on to the roadway portion of phase one. We have to replace the asphalt in the median section that’s being worked on right now. That way when we switch traffic to phase two, you know, that is the asphalt that has been replaced,” said ODOT District 5 PIO Morgan Overbey.
Phase one is set to be complete this summer with phase two starting in August. It’s important to remember to use caution when approaching work zones.
“Folks seeing orange barrels out there. It also being National Work Zone Awareness week for us to talk about work zone safety. It’s not just our crews, it’s all roadside workers , if you see flashing lights make sure to slow down and move over. If you are not able to move over, please slow down, it is the law,” cautioned Overbey.
