I-70 East Accident

A five car injury accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 70 near mile marker 146 Monday evening.

The call for the accident came at about 9:30. We spoke to Kevin Kelley, Sergeant of the Ohio State Highway Patrol who told us how the crash happened.

"There was a vehicle. It was a full sized passenger van. It was hauling a trailer. It was going westbound on 70 and lost control–what he described as black ice….As he was going across the median, several cars going eastbound on interstate 70, obviously trying to avoid him became entangled and the crash happened."

According to Kelley, the driver of the rollback wrecker was pinned in his vehicle and had to be extracted. Kelley says he is stable and is believed to have non life threatening injuries. No one else was injured.

Interstate 70 eastbound is reopen in this area. It was closed for some time due to the van spilling its load of molasses on the highway. No citations were issued and the crash remains under investigation.
