‘Imagine: A Clean Community’ Preventing Opioid Epidemic
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Local organizations are coming together to hold ‘Imagine: A Clean Community’ to bring awareness about the Opioid Epidemic.
This years guest speaker is David Sheff who wrote ‘Beautiful Boy’ and ‘Clean’ stories from a dads perspective on with his sons addiction and a description of dealing with addiction recovery treatments. C.E.O. of Muskingum Behavioral Health, Steve Carrel, said Sheff questions the current system and looks for answers.
“We’re bringing somebody that is very eloquent in describing what’s going on,” Carrel said. “So if people want to learn what’s going on in their world. They are going to find out, but it’s not just the problem. We’re going to look at solutions, some things we can do.”
This year the opioid prevention organizations have set up a meeting with high school students from area county high schools to come to Secrest Auditorium before the guest speaker and talk about preventing future generations from using drugs.
“Work with all these young people to come up with ideas on drug prevention, prevention activities, prevention ideas,” Carrel said. “That they could then take back and put together a plan. That they’ll actually go back to their schools and implement, basically what you have then is you have peer-to-peer type prevention.”
