ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Leaders at John McIntire Library invite area children & parents to ring-in the New Year in a slightly unconventional and innovative way. They organized the Noon Year’s Eve celebration in the library lobby.

“It is New Year’s Eve and we have a lot of little ones in our community who can’t stay up until midnight, so we decided to throw them a party at noon. So, today, we have an event going on from 11 until 12 and we have games, we have snacks, we have crafts, we’re making noise-makers, and then at noon we’ll do a big balloon drop with a confetti cannon. We’ll just celebrate the New Year together,” says Caitlynn Melick, Youth Services Manager at John McIntire Library.

Melick says the event is designed to draw in children and the parents to show them what a visit to the library can offer.

“So, the library is a hub of many things. We’re a hub of information, first of all. Then, we’re a hub of activity for our community, too. So, programming is an essential part of our library services. So, we get people into the library and they discover all sorts of new things that they didn’t know they were even looking for to begin with,” Melick adds.

John McIntire Library is closed New Year’s Day.
