It’s His Time: Sayin Named Ohio State Starting Quarterback

COLUMBUS, OH – Late Monday morning, Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day confirmed what had been expected since the team entered training camp, naming sophomore Julian Sayin, the team’s starting quarterback.
With three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, Day had been debating between Sayin and junior Lincoln Kienholz for the starting job before making the ultimate decision. He says that Sayin “is smart, poised, and has good composure” among other qualities that led him to the starting job.
The former five-star recruit out of California joined the Buckeyes before last season from Alabama, sitting behind Will Howard and Devin Brown en route to the program’s first national championship in ten years.
He did see time on the field in four separate games, including against Tennessee in the first round of the playoffs. His only career touchdown came against Western Michigan on September 9th of last year.
Now officially “QB1” for the Buckeyes, Sayin has less than two weeks to prepare for a massive matchup in week one, when third-ranked Ohio State faces the number one-ranked team in the nation, Texas.
