Jack Jay McClelland (December 19, 1945 – June 3, 2012)

Jack Jay McClelland, 66, of Zanesville, passed away on June 3, 2012. He was born on December 19, 1945, in Zanesville, Ohio, to the late James White McClelland and Aridean (Hogan) McClelland. He graduated from Maysville High School in 1963. Shortly after graduating he served in the United States Army reaching the rank of Buck Sergeant. He spent 18 months in Europe during his tenure in the Armed Services. Upon returning to the States, he graduated from Mount Union College in 1970 and later received his Juris Doctor degree from Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law in 1973. After receiving his law degree, he returned to Zanesville where he became a founding partner in the Graham & McClelland Law Firm. Jack was a trial attorney who shined in the courtroom. He was appointed as a Magistrate for the United States District Court by Honorable Joseph P. Kinneary, where he served for five years. He also served as the Village Solicitor for South Zanesville for twelve years. Along with his law practice, he was part owner in OK Coal and Concrete and EagleSticks Golf Club. Upon retiring from the practice of law, Jack never looked back as he remained active traveling and spending time with his many friends and family. Jack was very involved in the community where he was a member of numerous clubs and organizations including the Zanesville Eagles, Zanesville Moose Lodge, AmVets, Muskingum River Advisory, and was a life member of Ducks Unlimited.

Jack is survived by his three sons James McClelland, Andrew McClelland, and Robert (Nicholette) McClelland, all of Zanesville; four grandchildren with another on the way, Alex, Ethyn, Amber, and Ava; brother, Richard (Joyce Ann) McClelland, sister Gayla Lemmon, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph McClelland and the mother of his children, Glenna McClelland.

Calling hours will be 2-4 & 6-8pm on Thursday June 7, 2012 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday in the Snouffer Chapel. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
