Jail Update

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Commissioners were updated about the construction progress taking place at the new county jail facility located on Pershing Road.
Muskingum County Administrator Kade Haddox announced that the project is now 30 percent complete and listed many of the tasks that have been finished over the past few months.
“30 percent comes from total project costs that’s been billed so far as well as man-hours projected on the job,” Haddox said “We’re right about that 30 percent mark. As you can see if you’ve driven by, most of the outside walls have been completed, windows are going in, garage doors, a lot of the outside facade has been done, we’ve got the roofing on and probably three-fourths of the building.”
The remainder of the roof, windows and doors are anticipated to be finished during the coming days so that workers can construct the interior in a weather stable environment and more easily stay on schedule.
“Right now you’re seeing the outside of the walls,” Haddox said. “So everything else that goes in you know, masonry block, forming office space, installing cells, electrical, HVAC, the finishes of the building. The building is roughly 103,000 square-feet. So getting the outside walls up is a very small portion of it. There’s a lot that goes into the inside: technology wise, building maintenance wise, painting, things like that, so.”
Haddox praised the efforts and coordination between the many contractors who are working in unison in the shared space. He also noted that the bulk of the heavy truck traffic through the neighborhood is finished and that the project is on schedule and anticipated to be completed in August 2027.
