James R. “Jim” Brothers, 80, of Byesville, passed away Saturday (December 13, 2025) at Altercare of Cambridge.

He was born January 18, 1945 in Cambridge, son of the late Randall Pete Brothers and Lois Irene (Campbell) Brothers.

A 1964 graduate of Byesville High School – the school’s last graduating class, Jim had worked for thirty years at Detroit Diesel. He retired in 2007. He had also worked at the former NCR for ten years.

Jim was a member of the First Christian Church, where he had served as a trustee for many years. He lovingly made and donated wooden chalices every year for the church’s Catechism classes.

He loved his John Deere and also enjoyed woodworking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue; and his beloved dogs, Ellie, Cayenne, and Ziva.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary K. (Lehotay) Brothers, whom he married August 27, 1966; his son, Steven Edward (& Amanda) Brothers of Florida; his daughter, Ann Marie (& Hector) Chapa of Connecticut; his brother, Tom (& Reba) Brothers of Waynesboro VA; three grandchildren, Jacob (& Alyssa) Fehser, Cory (& Jessica) Fehser, and Zachary Brothers; five great-grandchildren, Oliver, Quinn, Cameron, Brayden, and Austin; and three step-great-grandchildren, Ayla, Carter, and Mason Andrzejewski.

Memorial visitation hours will be held Friday (December 19, 2025) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville.

Inurnment will take place at the Northwood Cemetery Mausoleum, Cambridge.
