James E. Ritterbeck (December 19, 1929 – January 25, 2012)

James E. Ritterbeck, 82 of Zanesville, went to be with the Lord at 5:05 am Wednesday January 25, 2012 at Genesis Hospice Morrison House.

Jim was born December 19, 1929 in Akron, OH the son of the late Edward and Rosella (Arnold) Ritterbeck. His childhood was spent in Fulda, OH. He is a retired Lt. Post Commander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol; during his distinguished career he also served as a SWAT team leader and he was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police. After his retirement he later served as head of security for the Central Ohio Coal Company. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post #1058. He was an avid woodworker and gardener and he enjoyed long walks in nature. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Zanesville and he served his country in the US Army as a paratrooper.

Jim is survived by his wife Marilyn (Mendenhall) Ritterbeck whom he married November 20, 1954; his son Gregory (Maggie) Ritterbeck of Zanesville and his daughter Deborah Ritterbeck of New Concord; his sisters Doris Schott of Cambridge and Marilyn (Tom) Hayes of Grove City; his sister-in-law Wanda Ritterbeck; his grandchildren Jim Ritterbeck, David (Rebecca) Ritterbeck, Mark Ritterbeck, Andrea Ritterbeck, Sam (Karri) Cronin, Sarah (Mark) Goodrich and Krista Collard; his great-grandchildren Adrick, Kammi, Kenzi, Sydney (Cronin), Slade, Gavin, Ariston (Goodrich), Gabby Ritterbeck; two great-great grandchildren Jaden and Jadontae and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his brother Richard Ritterbeck and brother-in-law James Schott.

Visitations will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Friday, Jan. 27th at the Farus Funeral Home, Duncan Falls where a vigil service will be held at 3:45. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Saturday Jan. 28th at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with a Dominican Father as celebrant.
