James W Grubb

James W. Grubb, 97, passed away at Genesis Hospice Morrison House on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025. He was born June 12, 1928, and was the son of the late Austin Delford and Alice Bessie McKibben Grubb of McConnelsville.

Jim grew up in McConnelsville. He was employed at the A&P Grocery Store and Muskingum Valley Grocery in McConnelsville, then moved to Indiana where he worked at L.E. Meyers as an electric tower lineman. He returned to McConnelsville and worked at Central Ohio Coal Company for 32 years, first as a mechanic and later as a supervisor. He moved to Zanesville in 1982 and retired from Central Ohio Coal Company in 1993.

Jim was a past master of the Corinthian Lodge #111 in McConnelsville and was a member since 1950, recently being honored for his 75th year; a member of the Scottish Rite in Cambridge; and a member of the Aladdin Shrine in Columbus. Jim was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Zanesville. He was also an avid golfer for many years and a lifelong Buckeyes and New York Yankees fan.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 77 years, JoAnn, whom he married in March 1948; his children: Michael (Beverly) Grubb of Columbus, David (Linda) Grubb of Columbus, Steven (Sandy) Grubb of Locust Grove, Georgia, and Nancy Ring of Nashport; grandchildren: Kareena Gibson, LeAnna Harris, Joe Grubb, Joni Blouse, Jeff Grubb, Jason Grubb, Stephanie Wylie, Dan Good, Shawn Good, Brent Ring and Derek Ring. He also has 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters: Wanda Grubb of McConnelsville, and Nellie Keller of New York; and three brothers: Mark Grubb, Richard Grubb, and Jack Grubb, all of McConnelsville.

At Jim’s request, a loving cremation will take place. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held later.
