James “Jim” Howard Frederick, 88 of Chandlersville, died 5:56 PM, Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Genesis Hospital, following a short illness. He was born Thursday, September 24, 1936, in Lodi, the son of Howard Frederick and Gertrude (Payne) Frederick.

Jim served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. He owned Jim’s Dental Lab in Zanesville for many years. He was a member of Lafayette Lodge # 79, Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio, an honorary member of Gage and Gavel Lodge 448, FA&M, and was a Life Member of Amrou Grotto, Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm (M.O.V.P.E.R.).

Jim was a very active member of the Grotto where he served as Monarch in 1982. He was past kitchen manager, cooked many steaks and pork chops, and served countless banquets. He was also a Grotto Clown and was a traveling companion for the Past Grand Monarch, Bernie Mitchell.

Jim was also an aviation enthusiast, he was a private pilot, and owned and operated his own Cessna for many years. He could be found daily at Tee Jays Restaurant, where his was the Chairman of the Board for the “Table of Knowledge.”

Jim was an avid race fan and had a passion for collecting race memorabilia. Over the years he obtained a vast knowledge of all things racing, and was a Life Member of Living Legends of Auto Racing.

Jim attended 51 Daytona 500 Races throughout his life. He was Crew Chief of the Dorus Wisecarver Racing Team, and in 1967 their team placed 4th in the ARCA Race, which qualified them for the 1967 Daytona 500. The Wisecarver Racing Team finished 14th overall in a 427 Ford for the 1967 Daytona.

Jim’s passion for racing continued as he visited 87 race tracks in 27 states and Canada. He enjoyed NASCAR, Late Models, Sprint, Four Cylinders and Funny Cars. He was a regular at Hilltop, Crooksville, Zanesville and the Valley Race Tracks.

Jim is survived by one brother, William “Bill” Frederick of OK; one nephew, Eric Frederick of PA, special friends of many years, Kristen & John Somerville and Bob & Jane Worstall and a host of friends and acquaintances.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two brothers, Casey Frederick and John Frederick.

Friends may call 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the Hillis, Combs and Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where the Amrou Grotto will conduct Funeral Services at 6:00 PM.
