James R. Swingle, age 88, of Crooksville, passed away peacefully at Genesis Hospice Morrison House, on Saturday, March 12, 2016. He was born in Zanesville on March 30, 1927 and was the son of Mildred and Joseph Swingle.
Jim is survived by his wife Helen Yvonne Swingle and his children: sons Mark, Danny (Starla), Jimmy (Mindy) and daughters Kathy (Jim) Alexander, Ellen Nist, Mary (Steve) Dillehay and Melissa (Roger) Oberhauser.Step-children; Sonja Scott, Roger (Gail ) Hill, Bonnie (Warren) Ragland, and Keith Hill. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Also surviving are his sisters, Nancy Gransee of Arizona and Margie Hill of Texas and brother Robert Swingle of Crooksville, sister-in-laws Martha Penrod and Sylvia Smeltzer and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and mother of his children, Una Luckett Swingle, his second wife, Helen Keister Swingle, brother Joseph Swingle, and sister Mary Swingle Starett.
Jim was a graduate of Crooksville High School and served in the Army after high school. He worked in the oil fields most of his life with his father and his sons at their business Swingle Drilling Inc. He still worked actively in the business until recently. He also owned Petroware Inc. in Crooksville for a number of years with his sons which was just sold last year.
Jim’s community involvement included activity in: Lion’s Club, Gideon’s International, Crooksville School Board, Perry County Republican Central Committee and Crooksville-Roseville Pottery Museum. He was past president of the pottery museum association for a number of years and also past chairman of the Crooksville-Roseville pottery festival.
Jim was an active member of North Terrace Church of Christ in Zanesville.

Family and friends may call from: 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Monday March 14, 2016 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 West Military Road Zanesville, Ohio 43701. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday March 15 at the North Terrace Chruch of Christ with Mr. Bill Meaige officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
