James W. Phillips (June 11, 1933 – May 6, 2016)

James W. Phillips, 82, of Zanesville, died at 3:24 A.M. on Friday, May 6, 2016, at Select Specialty Hospital in Newark. He was born June 11, 1933, in Zanesville. A son of the late Herman W. and Maybelle O’Toole Phillips. Jim was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. Prior to leaving for the service Jim worked as a meat packer at David Davies and upon his return worked on the railroad, where he retired. Jim also retired from Muskingum College as a boiler operator. He then helped his nephews delivering for Phillips Meats. He was a member of the Old Trail Hunt Club and Malta Lodge #118 F & AM.
He is survived by ten nieces and nephews, Dale (Roxanne) Phillips, Jimmy (Sue) Phillips, Jay (Carol) Harvey, Dan (Cindy) Terrill, Dianna (Greg Clapper) Hittle, Cotton (Katie) Phillips, Rayla (Aric) VanAllen, Barbara (Lynn) Deavers, Troy Hamilton and Christie (John) Jones; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary J. Hawkins Phillips, who died March 26, 2013; an infant brother; a brother Dean Phillips; and a great great niece Lola Jo Green.
Friends and family may call from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Monday, May 9, 2016 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at St. Paul Cemetery, Sonora, with Evangelist Dick Harris officiating, and with full military honors being presented by the United States Army in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058 and American Legion Post #29.
