Joan J. Picklesimer February 9, 1938 – October 8, 2026

Joan Jane Shaffer was born in Cambridge, Ohio, the only child of Clyde and Alma Shaffer. Adored by her parents, she enjoyed a wonderful childhood and was truly the apple of their eyes.

Joan was many things throughout her life: a loving daughter, devoted friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was beautiful, creative, and just a little sassy. She was an artist, gardener, crafter, teacher, and caregiver whose talents and kindness touched the lives of many.

At the age of 18, Joan married Richard Treherne, a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Her adventurous spirit served her well as an Air Force wife. She embraced each new assignment and enjoyed the opportunity to see more of the world. Together, Joan and Richard welcomed three children: Stephanie, David, and Daniel.

As they built their family, Joan created warm and loving homes in Alabama, Texas, the Azores, New York, Florida, Ohio, and Virginia. No matter where life took her, she cultivated friendships, beauty, and a sense of belonging.

After her marriage to Richard ended, Joan found love again with Roger Picklesimer. Together they began a new chapter, moving to Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, where they owned and operated a small grocery store. After several years, they sold the store and returned to Cambridge so Joan could help care for her father as he battled Alzheimer’s disease.

Cambridge became home once again. Joan immersed herself in the community, joining Homemakers and the Garden Club. The friendships she formed through these organizations became an important part of her life and brought her great joy, companionship, and purpose.

In 2010, Roger passed away. A lifelong dog lover, Joan did not want to live alone and soon found a faithful companion in her beloved dog, Teddy. He accompanied her nearly everywhere she went, and in return, offered the unconditional love and loyalty that brightened her days.

Joan’s children and their spouses, Stephanie Sim (Gregory), David Treherne (Paula), and Daniel Treherne, her grandchildren, Julie Treherne, Richard Treherne, and Maxwell Sim, and her great-grandchildren, Lincoln Sim and Emmett Sim, will miss her deeply. Her absence leaves a space that can never be filled. A little light went out of this world when she left it to be with God, but the love she gave, the beauty she created, and the memories she leaves behind will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.

There will be a memorial service on October 23rd at 11:00 at Christ Global Methodist Church on North Ave. Joan’s online guest book may be viewed and signed at www.bundy-lawfuneralhome.com.
