Jockey dumped, horse clips people on track at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — A horse dumped its jockey leaving the starting gate Friday in the $300,000 Chandelier Stakes then clipped two photographers standing near the outside rail before running loose around the track at Santa Anita.
The incident occurred on opening day of the fall meet at the track where 31 horses died earlier this year.
Jockey Norberto Arroyo Jr. was unseated by 2-year-old filly Leucothea. He got up and appeared unhurt.
The filly veered to the outside rail and ran by the winner’s circle before clipping a man and woman photographing the race near a gap in the rail. Neither apparently saw the approaching filly before they got clipped and fell. Others jumped out of the way as Leucothea continued running most of the way around the track.
An outrider finally caught the filly near the gap leading to the stable area.
The man got up and was moving before being taken away in the ambulance that follows the horses and jockeys around the track. The woman got up and didn’t appear hurt.
