John Hindel

John Clinton Hindel, 80, of Frazeysburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, November 30, 2025, at Genesis Morrison House in Zanesville.
Born April 25, 1945, in Coshocton, John was the son of the late William “Bus” and Leona (Camp) Hindel. He proudly served in the Army National Guard and spent his career with Owens Corning until his retirement. A tireless worker, John farmed full time while also working full time—a testament to his dedication, strength, and deep love of the land. His farming roots fostered a lifelong appreciation for antique tractors, and he never passed up the chance to talk tractors with family and friends.
John loved people as much as he loved outdoors. Known for his warm smile and easy conversation, he truly never met a stranger. He enjoyed talking with family, old friends, and the many new friends he made along the way—whether traveling, at a grandchild’s ballgame, or riding his four-wheeler as he checked in on the “neighborhood.” Above all, John cherished his family. He delighted in sharing stories about them, and he never missed a chance to express how proud he was of his wife, children, and grandchildren.
John leaves behind his beloved wife, Dorothy K. (Untied) Hindel; his son, Robert Hindel of Frazeysburg; his daughters, Vicki (Jeff) Smith of Frazeysburg and Jannette Hindel of Hartford City, Indiana; and nine grandchildren: Stacey (John) Dawkins, Kylie (Tyler) Gaskill, Katie (Ashton) Black, Sydney (Nigel) Hensley, Heather Blatz, Dustin (Danielle) Hindel, Meagan (Jeremy Burns) Hindel, Dakota (Colten) Gearhart, and Kanyon Mohler. He is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren; his brothers Jerry (Cheryl) Hindel, David (Marge) Hindel, Gene (Barb) Hindel, and Paul (Karen) Hindel; his sisters Loretta Boals and Linda Hindel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by an infant son, John C. Hindel, Jr.; a great-grandson, Liam Dawkins; and three brothers, William “Bill” Hindel, Jim Hindel, and Robert “Bob” Hindel.
John will be remembered for his kind spirit, his love of family, and the steady, hardworking life he lived. His legacy continues in the fields he tended, the stories he shared, and the family he so deeply loved.
A graveside funeral service for John’s family will be held Friday, December 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Frazeysburg Cemetery, with Minister Sam Dunn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Frazeysburg Elementary PTO, c/o Grandparent’s Day, 120 E. 3rd Street, Frazeysburg, OH 43822, or via Venmo @FrazeysburgPTO, in support of their Grandparents Day Celebration, to honor John’s love for his grandchildren and his community.
