ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The First Friday Artwalk this week in downtown Zanesville features two featured artists of the month at the ZAAP gallery.

Up first is Jennifer Johnstonbaker. She’s been a member of ZAAP since 2018 and her art is inspired by places she has traveled to, along with her visions and thoughts of the future. Her artistic process typically produces two pieces at a time

“I have a process and my process is to do a collage out of paper. So I do paper collages and most of the collages that are like where they have a scene or places that my husband has taken me when we travel. But, once I do a paper collage, then I do a painting…,” Johnstonbaker said.

The second artist featured in July is Alezia Lorentz. She’s been a member since 2022 and is artistically inspired by the natural world. When it comes to her preferred medium, Lorentz favors a method in which every move she makes feels permanent.

“My favorite medium is definitely ink. I love sketching with an ink pen. I use to prefer pencil but I erase too much and I doubted myself and it affected my confidence. By switching over to pen, it made me step out and away form the doubt and it made me have to embrace whatever I put on the paper,” Lorentz said.

You can see both Lorentz and Johnstonbaker’s work at the ZAAP gallery at 625 Main Street in Zanesville. The First Friday Artwalk is July 3 from 5-8 p.m.
