ZANESVILLE, OH – January shines a little brighter as it marks National Mentoring Month, a time to highlight the powerful and positive impact of mentorship.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville is celebrating the month with a heartfelt call to action to become a mentor and light up a child’s life. With over 40 children awaiting their mentor, or “Big”, the opportunity to make a positive impact is immense.

“We really do our best to intentionally match kids with a mentor that has some like interests. There’s 40 of them to choose from. So, we’re just looking for somebody who wants to make an impact. The commitment for that is about a one-year commitment.” Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville Executive Director, Katie Lupsor said.

With a commitment of just 1 to 2 times a month for a year, you can make a significant impact. As a “big”, you get the chance to be a friend, a guide, and a beacon of support in a young person’s life.

“The impact a mentor can make on the life of a child can be both social and emotional. It can help them feel more confident, it can help them get better grades in school, it’s another person who cares about them. Someone they can talk to. Someone they can talk to in confidence, and it does improve self-esteem. It does build a very positive, strong, impactful relationship between an adult and a child.” Lupsor said.
