Joshua Norris

Master Sergeant Norris is a native of Zanesville, Ohio. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 2000 and attended Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island Beaufort, SC. Upon completion, he received training at Marine Combat Training School (MCT), at Camp Geiger. Following MCT, he reported to Warfare Apprentice Training School and Aviation Electricians Mate Strand, Pensacola, FL.
Upon graduation, he was assigned Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 6331. He reported to Center of Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA. He was promoted to Lance Corporal 1 August 2001 and upon graduation received the MOS of 6337.
In August 2001, he transferred to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 212, Iwakuni, Japan. He served as F/A-18 aircraft electrical systems technician. He was promoted to Corporal 1 June 2003 then promoted to Sergeant 1 July 2004. During this assignment, he participated in Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Southern Watch, and Operation Enduring Freedom, one Top Gun exercise, one Hawaii exercise, multiple detachments to Australia in the Northern Territory, Guam, Korea, Okinawa, and Singapore.
In August 2005, he transferred to Navy Fighter Training Squadron 125, Naval Air Station Lemoore, California, where he served as the Avionics Armament Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge. During this assignment, he participated in numerous training exercises in support of providing F/A-18A-D aircraft for training of new pilots for the fleet.
In July 2008, he reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 323, Miramar, California. He served as Electric Shop Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge and Maintenance Controller. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant 1 November 2008. During this assignment, he participated in two Rim of the Pacific exercises, three Top Gun exercises, one Western Pacific exercise on the Carrier Air Group 9 USS John C. Stennis CVN-74, one Western Pacific Exercise in support of Operation Tomodachi, and Operation New Dawn on the Carrier Air Group 14 USS Ronald Reagan CVN-76.
In December 2012, he reported to Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 242, Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan. He served as the Electric Shop and Maintenance Control Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge and Maintenance Control Staff Non-commissioned Officer in Charge. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant 1 November 2013. During this assignment, he participated in one Rim Pacific exercise, two Forger Fury exercises, one Weapons and Tactics Instruction 14.1 and one Outback Operation.
In July 2015, he reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115, Beaufort, SC, for duty as the Quality Assurance Chief. In July 2016 he deployed on the Unit Deployment Program 16.2 to Iwakuni, Japan. In March 2017 he reported to Marine Aircraft Group 31 to become the Marine Aviation Training System Site Chief and the Aviation Maintenance Combat Standardization Leadership Evaluation Program Coordinator. In October 2018, he reported back to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115 to become the Maintenance Control Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge. He participated in one Unit Deployment Program 16.2 Western Pacific Exercise and one Weapons and Tactics Instruction 17.2 as the F/A-18 Quality Assurance Chief. He was promoted to Master Sergeant 1 February 2019 and received the MOS of 6391 Avionics Maintenance Chief.
In June 2019, he reported as the Avionics Maintenance Chief of Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 466, Miramar, California. In November 2019 he deployed on the Unit Deployment Program 20.1 to Okinawa, Japan. He also was the CH-53 Avionics Maintenance Chief for Weapons and Tactics Instruction 21.1 class.
In January 2022, he assumed his duties as the Maintenance Control Chief of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 267, Camp Pendleton, California. In November 2022 he deployed on the Unit Deployment Program 23.1 to Okinawa, Japan. In January 2023 he assumed his duties as the Avionics Maintenance Chief of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 267.
Master Sergeant Norris’ personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of fourth award).
