July 31st Is The Deadline For Businesses To Sign Up For The Safety CouncilZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce has now opened sign up for the “safety council.”

The safety council is a program that is administered by the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensations and ran locally by the chamber.

“We have a monthly meeting,”Chamber President Dana Matz said. “We have speakers that come in and either discuss safety or wellness related topics. After attending a certain amount of meetings, the businesses in turn receive a discount or a rebate on their worker’s com costs. Then at our annual spring break meeting, we give out awards for their attends to those meetings, for them hitting certain goals set forth by bureaus of worker’s compensation.”

During the meeting, area businesses learn how to improve safety and wellness in their workplace.

“Businesses are required to attend 10 meetings. 8 of those 10 have to be one of the local meetings, but there are two external training opportunities such as safety congress that the BWC puts on in Columbus. There are other meetings that are held locally that would for fill those requirements,” Matz said.
