Justin Thomas wins Sony Open in record fashion

HONOLULU – An incredible four-day stretch for Justin Thomas culminated Sunday with him breaking a 15-year-old PGA record and winning the Sony Open.
The 23-year-old Thomas shot a 65 on his final round to finish with a seven-stroke lead over Justin Rose and an overall score of 253. That broke the 72-hole PGA record previously held by Tommy Armour III who shot a 254 at the 2003 Texas Open.
The incredible stretch started on Thursday when Thomas shot a 59, making him the youngest player to ever break 60. He had a 64 on Friday, a 65 on Saturday, and a 65 again Sunday. This is his fourth PGA win. Thomas won the 2015 and ‘16 CIMB Classic and won the SBS Tournament of Champions last week.
Thomas is a Louisville native but his grandfather was the longtime PGA pro at the Zanesville County Club.
