Kathleen Dinan

Kathleen Dinan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Kathleen was known for her beautiful smile, warm heart, and never-ending love for family. She had an incredible ability to turn strangers into friends and was a constant reminder of what it truly means to love others.
Born on August 7, 1940, to Leo and Mary Louise McLoughlin, Kathleen grew up in a home filled with seven brothers and four sisters in Zanesville.
She took pride in greeting everyone with a smile. Even during recent hospital stays, she found ways to brighten the room, offering a smile as a way of saying hello and expressing gratitude to her caregivers.
Kathleen shared her love through cooking favorite recipes like meatloaf, baked beans, oatmeal raisin cookies, and pineapple upside-down cake. These simple, homemade dishes brought much joy and will forever be a cherished part of her legacy.
Proudly from Zanesville, Kathleen carried her hometown in her heart wherever she went. Even when traveling abroad, she spoke of it as if the whole world should know of its charm.
She cherished every family gathering, from large celebrations spanning multiple generations to fun evenings of bridge, euchre, or hauzie. Bringing friends and family together brought her the greatest joy.
She loved watching her grandchildren and the children of family and friends compete in sporting events. She had a knack for clipping newspaper articles, ensuring every accomplishment was recognized and remembered.
Kathleen was a graduate of Bishop Rosecrans High School, where she was crowned homecoming queen of the class of 1958, a time when she forged lifelong friendships and met the love of her life, John Dinan. On May 5, 1962, she married John at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Together, their love was endless and always filled with laughter and a shared devotion to family.
Kathleen’s love extended to her children, siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and, most especially, her three grandchildren, who could do no wrong in her eyes. Watching them grow, cheering them on at their games, celebrating their academic achievements, and seeing them become successful young adults brought her immeasurable joy.
She leaves behind her husband, John; her daughter, Julie Kovach (Rob); her sons, John (Kevin) and Joe (Christine); and her grandchildren, Gage (Alexis), Chase, and Ashley. She is also survived by her sisters, Jane Mills, Martha Watson, Marie (Bill) Miller, and Virginia Porter; her brother, Alan (Diane) McLoughlin; and her sisters-in-law, Joan McLoughlin, Sharon McLoughlin, Shirley Conkley, Tina (Bill) Merry, Peggy Dinan, and Brenda Dinan. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bernard, Charles, Pat, Dennis, Ambrose, and Paul (Jake).
As we remember Kathleen, let us celebrate the kindness she showed to all and the beautiful example she set for loving others. Let us also carry the lesson she taught us – that every friendship begins with a smile.
