Profile Shafer

Kenneth E. “Kenny” Shafer age 80, of Caldwell, OH passed away Friday October 4, 2024 at the OhioHealth Doctors Hospital in Columbus, OH. He was born May 3, 1944 in Mt. Ephraim, OH son of the late Edison Shafer and Mabel Lantz Hilton.

He was a graduate of the former Sarahsville High School and served in the National Guard. Kenny was a member of Olive Lodge #210 F. & A.M. and Cambridge Fraternal Order of Eagles #386. His career included working for the State of Ohio, Savings & Loan Bank, First National Bank, Peoples Bank, Marathon, and he also served several terms as a Center Township Trustee.

Kenny could often be found playing pool, out on a walk, watching his great-nieces and great-nephew’s sporting events, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed building furniture and doing mechanic work with Lloyd, dinners out with Jerry Rossiter, driving Joyce McCune to Columbus to visit his daughter, son-in-law and family. Kenny also spent time weed eating, bantering with his sisters, and watching the Browns, Cavaliers, Indians, and Indiana Fever play.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Leasure Shafer, whom he married July 3, 1966 and who passed away May 8, 2013; sister Cleo Hannahs and brother Jerry Shafer.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son Ken “Bubba” (Tammy) Shafer of Lower Salem, OH; daughter Marci (Larry) McCune of Westerville, OH; grandchildren Toni (Gabriel) Morrison of Delaware, OH, Austin (Audrey) McCune of Richwood, OH, Hunter McCune of West Hollywood, CA, and Bridget (Travis) Shafer of Lower Salem; great-grandchildren Lillian Morrison, Makenna Morrison, Angel Shafer, Louella Shafer and Trenton Klintworth; “adopted son” Lloyd (Teresa) Moag of Sarahsville, OH; brother Dan (Pam) Shafer of Byesville, OH; 2 sisters Lou Ellen Shafer of Zanesville, OH and Jane Rich of Senecaville, OH. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends for visitation Monday, October 7, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A Funeral Service will conclude visitation Monday, October 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Kirby Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Ridge Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife Dorothy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Kenny’s name to the Mt.
