Kids In The Kitchen

The culinary kitchens at Zane State College saw a younger crowd of students this morning, it was the kids turn to whip up a dessert concoction.

As part of the college’s Community Education Program students can learn anything from dog obedience training to ethnic and holiday cooking. But today it was ‘bon appetit’ for the kids.

“This is a community education class, “Kids in the Kitchen” and we’ve got groups of parents and grandparents with their children here and learning how to make different desserts and just having a lot of fun culinary arts lab.” Says Public Information Officer Gary King.

Cupcakes and fruit tarts were on the menu this morning and even though it was hard to keep them from eating all the ingredients, there were some dessert masterpieces in the works.

“They’re having a blast, you know they get their hands in and get to get dirty and play with the icing and stuff like that, its been a lot of fun. We’ve done this each year, its a great opportunity for kids to come out and just get exposed to the college and exposed to the kitchen and suspect we’ll have some other opportunities come up soon.” Says King.

The community education program have classes all year long. For more information on how you can get involved with the program click here.
