Kiwanis Club Hosts Pinewood Derby
The Zanesville Kiwanis Club left the pit stop Thursday night and headed for the race track for its annual Pinewood Derby race.
In a close second to those peanuts we all love, the Pinewood Derby is the second largest fundraiser the Kiwanis Club has every year. Local businesses are encouraged to test their skills and build a car, all in hopes of winning the coveted first place trophy.
“We have some regulars every year, always finish in the top 5 so they always come back,” said Event Chairman Kevin Pinson.
The Kiwanis Club met their goal this year of $7,500, and Pinson couldn’t be happier.
“A lot of the funds we raised tonight are going to things such as our Christmas Party where we invite 60 low income kids to come and celebrate Christmas,” he said. “We give them clothes and toys for Christmas”.
Teams from Dollar General took home both first and second place while James Electric came in third. The Kiwanis Club would like to thank all of their sponsors for helping support a successful Pinewood Derby event.
