Labor Day Driving Safety Tips

ZANESVILLE, OH – Even though school may be back in session, Labor Day is America’s last hurrah for summer, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol urges motorists to be on alert so that holiday happiness does not turn into a September setback.

“With any holiday, you’re going to see an increase in traffic. A lot of times, not just locally we see an increase of dealing with interstate traffic. So we do our job, just to increase our own presence, knowing that the commute will be increased in general.” Said Lieutenant Mistovich.

Labor Day winds up what the State Patrol refers to as the 100 deadliest days of summer and with the increase in travel, Mistovich recommends motorists to be on the lookout for out-of-town motorists, who may not be familiar with local traffic patterns.

“Labor Day comes with last minute festivities, so we just look for impaired drivers, aggressive drivers, and we are strict to enforce those laws because it just puts that person and our local motorists in danger, so.” Mistovich said.

The State Patrol encourages travelers to plan ahead, plan to attend events sober and if you will be drinking, plan for a designated driver.

Don’t allow devices to distract you when driving and always buckle your safety belt.
