‘Lace Up for Kids’

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville Civic League Community Center was packed with shoes to ‘Lace Up for Kids.

This was the 29 annual ‘Lace Up for Kids’ event and over one thousand children received free new shoes. According to Co-Chairman Sally Goins this started when two Wendy’s owners saw a need and from their community organizations joined in.

“It’s kind of messy process, because we make sure that every child tries the shoes on and gets the ones that fit them just right,” Goins said. “So it takes a while to fit them but then they go out feeling good.”

The shoes went to children of low-income families and those who are going through struggling times financially. So they may start school in comfort and style.

“One of the little boys said ‘this is the best pair of shoes I’ve ever had,” Goins said. “He had ones that lit up and made noise. It’s just wonderful to know that the kids get to pick out a pair of shoes. They get ones that fit them and start out the year on a brand new note.”

‘Lace Up for Kids was sponsored by Wendy’s, WHIZ Media Group and administered by Eastside Community Ministry.
