ZANESVILLE, OH – Every school year starts with a fresh pair of shoes for hundreds of local students, and now the community has a chance to help make that happen once again.

The Eastside Community Ministry is kicking off its 38th annual Lace Up for Kids campaign. The organization is collecting new sneakers for students from pre-K through 12th grade. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Eastside Community Ministry, located at 221 Stillwell Street in Zanesville.

“We are looking for donations of all sizes of school appropriate tennis shoes. They must have laces to lace up for gym class. That’s what we’re looking for. We help Kindergarten through 12th grade, so, we need all of the sizes. A lot of people like to buy the little, cute, fun shoes, but we also need shoes for teenagers.” ECM Executive Director, Jamie Trout said.

You can also help while grabbing a meal. For the next two weeks, one dollar from every Kids Meal purchased at participating Wendy’s locations will be donated to the Lace Up for Kids campaign to help provide new shoes for local children.

“Wendy’s has been a partner of Lace Up for Kids for the entire existence to my knowledge. They do something great for us every year. This year, if you buy a kid’s meal, they will donate a dollar to Lace Up for Kids. Starting today for the next two weeks. That’s at all three locations here locally.” Trout said.

Families can apply to receive a pair of shoes at Eastside from July 6th through the 9th. Distribution will take place by appointment on August 1st at Zanesville Middle School. To learn more about Lace Up for Kids, visit the Eastside Community Ministry website.
