Last week for library’s summer reading program

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – This week is the last week for the Muskingum County Library System’s summer reading program.
Assistant director for the library system, Blair Tom, said this year they had 2,300 children register for the summer reading program. That number is a little lower than in past years according to Tom, but the library is trying new programs to get children involved in reading.
“We made a few changes with our program to make it more interactive and to give us opportunities to see about what children are reading, discovering, and creating as a part of their summer experience. We found that to be very successful,†said Tom.
Tuesday morning at John McIntire Library dozens of children watched magician Mark Wood perform. Tom said having people like Wood perform at the library does wonders to help increase childhood reading.
“That’s one of the things that is special about summer reading is live performance and we’ve had a really wonderful response to that,†said Tom “We’ve had a magician, ventriloquist, a juggler at all the branches. Then we’ve had really great community partners that visit our locations and present programs as well.â€
