Laura “Jean” Balsley

Laura “Jean” (Caldwell) Balsley, 89, of Zanesville, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 31, 1936, in Zanesville, the daughter of Helen (Laudenbacher) Caldwell and William Arthur Caldwell. She shared her birthday with her great grandson, Miles.
Jean was a 1954 graduate of Rosecrans High School. She retired following many years of service with Harts Department Store. She enjoyed traveling to Wheeling Island, and visits from her family.
Left to cherish Jean’s memory are her children, Rick Lang of Zanesville, Robin (Carl) Jones of Zanesville, Randy (Lisa) Lang of Middleport and Renee’ (Kevin) Helser of Zanesville; eleven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, James S. Balsley; two sons, Raymond Lang and Rodney Lang; one grandson, Raymond Arthur Lang, II; the father of her children, William N.C. Lang. Her siblings, Art Caldwell, John Caldwell, Helen Tandy, Dorothy May, and Gert Bell.
Laura would like to give special thanks to her daughter, Robin for taking care of her. To the staff of Shrivers Hospice and all the care given to Laura during her time of need.
Friends may call 12 Noon to 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Hillis Combs Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Darren Tolbert officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be too made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Laura’s memory.
