Leaf Collection to Clear City Streets Underway

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Spring Cleaning is underway for the City of Zanesville! After a particularly rough winter, the City is aiming to upkeep the appearance of the streets.

The Street and Sanitation Division will be cleaning up debris and leaves around the city for 4 weeks.

The City hopes to avoid using more equipment down the line according to Zanesville Mayor, Don Mason.

“The idea is if we can get the leaves off the streets now, from April 15th and May 15th, then that saves us having to use our evactor getting into the storm sewers months from now when we’ve got flooded waters,” he told us.

If you are trying to get rid of your leaves and trash, you are encouraged to place your piles or bags of leaves on the curb instead of on the streets to avoid traffic issues.

The goal is to clean up the city now to prevent future flooding issues due to leaves and debris.

Mayor Mason let us know that “leaves continue to come down and blow around through the streets; those ultimately make it to the storm sewers and slow down or actually plug up water.”

The dates the city will be coming through the streets are April 15th through May 15th.

If you do have more questions, you can visit the city’s website at coz.org or call the Zanesville Street Department.
