Leaping Toward Spring

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Winter makes the perfect time to plan and prepare for spring gardening.
And the Muskingum Valley Gardening Society Symposium Promoter Susan Stotts shared how their annual event teaches and inspires local gardeners to spread nature’s beauty through horticulture.
“The symposium A) is a fundraiser, helps us be able to do the other. And B) it helps us with the educational part. We’re going to have three main speakers this year. And we’re going to have a pictorial journey into the world of moths.”
Stotts said that moths play an important role in the pollination of native plants. Other topics will include the significance of Ohio’s native forests and the importance of sustainable gardening.
The event also allows the group to coordinate efforts toward the many public projects they have across the city.
“It’s also a fundraiser,” Stotts said. “We’ll have a silent auction and so we can help with the decorating, the enhancing the community. We take care of the pots downtown, both summer and winter. And we do the baskets on the Y-bridge in the summer. A lot of them are sponsored and we’re always looking for more sponsors for them.”
Registration for the March 9th symposium is $40 dollars and ends February 29th. To register for the event or learn more about the Muskingum Valley Gardening Society, you can visit mvgardensociety.org.
