Lexi Howe Is Showing All Of Her Skills In Final Season

Zanesville, OH- If you have made it out to a Tri-Valley Girls Basketball game this year, you may have noticed Lexi Howe and her ability to score the basketball. This year, however, there is more to her game than just scoring.

When you look up who the Tri-Valley High School girls basketball scoring champ is, there is only one name, Lexi Howe. The senior guard can score at will and take over a game at any time. For the 2022/23 season, she has led the Tri-Valley Lady Dogs with her ability to pass. Passing, she told us, that will be ingrained into the team.

“I think it’s a huge part because it gets everyone involved. I think that is a big part of our game. We get everybody involved, everyone scores, everyone plays defense. I wouldn’t say just scoring is a big thing, but also my leadership is there too. Getting everyone involved all the time is a big part,” Howe stated.

Tri-Valley is currently first place in the MVL girls basketball standings. For Howe, she shows her leadership by passing or playing defense and coming up with crucial blocks. She leads by example- post defense or falling on the ground after a loose ball. Howe shows exceptional court vision to find her teammates.

“It takes a lot of practice but I know I can trust my teammates. When they’re open, I will give them the ball because I trust them,” Howe said.

As the team’s only senior it’s her leadership that stands out. We spoke with Tri-Valley girls head basketball coach Kurt Kaufman and he mentioned why she is so important.

“Lexi’s impact is on the whole program. First of all, she’s a leader. She embraces teamwork. She’s worked hard over the past four years since playing in travel ball, coming to all the stuff we had school wise. She’s just been kind of like someone that other girls want to follow in our program.”

Howe is driving this team to first place and hopes the Lady Dawgs can go the distance this year. As a senior, this will be her last season as a guard for the Tri-Valley Lady Dogs. She will be heading to Ashland University right here in Ohio to play women’s basketball and volleyball. Lexi’s impact is felt off the court as well, and Coach Kaufman summed it up best by saying,

“Here is an all-american kid, good student, leader, 2 sport athlete, friend, representing her community, school, and team. Because she has made her time at Tri-Valley an important part of her journey, the Tri-Valley community celebrates with her!”

Lexi is hoping her leadership and impact will be felt for seasons to come.

“Moving up to D1, I hope we can improve pretty far in the tournament. I know we can play with teams like that. I think at least getting to districts and hopefully regionals will be a big part. I am the only one leaving, so if they improve this year, they will do even better next year,” Howe said.

Maybe that means another district champ banner to hang after this year. But no matter what happens this year, whenever you look up Tri-Valley Girls Basketball, there will always be one name you will hear. Lexi Howe.
