ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel visited Maysville Elementary on Wednesday afternoon to promote the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge.

The 30-day fitness challenge aims to teach and inspire students from the 3rd to 8th grade with workbooks that promote creating healthy habits. The former Buckeye’s Football coach talked to the Panthers about how the program encourages different types of exercise, a healthy diet, and good sleeping habits.

“We were going around, finding out who had the biggest enthusiasm about doing the youth fitness challenge and somehow word got to our staff that here, Maysville, they had it going on,” Tressel said. “And we ought to come out and take a look at it and they were right. That noise meter got up there. I don’t know what the decibels were.”

Around 400 students filled the cafeteria and participated in Tressel’s demonstration through various exercises and stretches before leaving with a workbook of their own. According to Tressel, the new program has been making big strides towards making Ohio the healthiest state in America.

“We’ve been to, getting close to 100 schools and to see how all of them are doing it differently, all of them have tremendous enthusiasm,” Tressel said. “We’re hearing stories about how they’re taking it home and they’re getting their families involved and they’re seeing camaraderie, they’re seeing encouraging one another. We couldn’t be happier.”
