ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville Lions Club hosted their Annual Golf Outing on Saturday, September 29th at Eaglesticks Golf Course.

The purpose of this scramble was to help raise money and buy a seeing pilot dog for someone in Muskingum County. The Lions Club meets the second Tuesday of every month and discuss how they can help those who are visually impaired.

Jeff Williamson, President of Zanesville Lions Club said, “One of the things we do is we raise money. The purpose of raising the money is for buying glasses for people who need glasses who don’t have the ability to buy them and we also do projects like trying to purchase pilot dogs.”

Williamson said there is a variety of well trained dogs and people from all over the country that take advantage of the pilot dog program in Columbus. Richard McConnell is currently with his eighth pilot guide dog.

“With the dog you have total freedom. Total independence,” McConnell said. “I’ve had good luck with my dogs.”

Griffey is a doberman and McConnell has had him for about 4 years now. If you are interested in helping the Lions Club and their cause you can call Williamson at (740) 704-1147 or stop by one their meetings at the Primrose Retirement Community.
