Local Business Makes Strides Against Breast Cancer

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, one local business is joining in the fight.

In partnership with WHIZ Media Group and Yuengling, Lucky’s Bar raised $1,300 this October for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. On Monday, representatives from WHIZ, Yuengling, and Lucky’s presented the organization with an honorary check. Co-owner of Lucky’s Bar, Cara Dodson, said without the support of her customers, this wouldn’t be possible.

“They came in and purchased ribbons, they came in and purchased t-shirts, they purchased Yuengling, which we donated back for every draft that was sold, so their participation in this was huge,” Dodson said.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K raised a total of $55,000 this year, which will benefit those touched by the disease and breast cancer research. Community Manager for Making Strides, Terri Kangas, said with the help of Lucky’s Bar, WHIZ and Yeungling, the organization was able to exceed its 2015 goal of $40,000.

“I just really want to thank the community for all their hard work, support, and time, we’ve just exceeded our goal this year, and can’t wait to get started for next year and to keep making strides against breast cancer,” Kangas said.

After much success this October, Kangas said she’s already begun working on next year’s campaign.
