Local Family Involved in Craigslist Scam
A Zanesville family is victim to an internet scam on a well know website…
Taffy Tippett and her husband used a local realtor to rent out property in North Zanesville. Tippett said her niece called her after she found the property listed on Craig’s list… Without Tippet’s knowledge or approval.
"People were calling, and people were driving by the house. Even though there was no address, they were able to find out where the house was, they were able to find out our phone number and we got a lot of calls about it, and I immediately told people that it was a scam."
Tippett said the rental price on Craigslist is reduced by 400 dollars, and a fake email with her husband’s name was created. Tippett said whoever is behind the scam, is asking people to send the money by mail.
"It says right on craigslist, if somebody can’t meet you to take you to the property, or talk with you, don’t do it. If it seems to good to be true, most likely it is."
Tippet also filed a complaint with Craigslist and Yahoo, the domain used to create the email address, to hopefully resolve the problem.
