DRESDEN, OH- Dresden’s historic roots in basketmaking were front and center throughout the day during the third annual America’s Basket Festival.

The event was held along the 400 to 600 blocks of Main Street and drew a record number of vendors and visitors. Organizers said more than 1,000 people were expected to attend the festival which included live music, hands on basket workshops, and a showcase of local businesses.

“Very toasty day I must say, right now we are expecting a crowd of over 1,000 people, our registration climbed over 600 people last night, and that doesn’t count multiple family members, so we’re expecting a great day,” said Dresden Community Association President, Darron Delancey.

It is the largest event hosted by the association each year, the festival celebrates the village’s legacy as America’s Basketmaking Capital.

“Rich history, handmade baskets have always been a tradition here, we also want to let people know that we’re still here, we still have a village that has shopping, and we have restaurants, and we have bed and breakfasts, so we just want to remind everyone that Dresden is alive, we’re still here,” said Delancey.

The festival  also included a Kiddie Day event, basket signings by Longaberger family members, and specialty sales across town. America’s Basket Festival will be held in Dresden again next year.
