Local healthcare facility climbs ranks

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- One local healthcare facility has climbed the ranks when it comes to hospital care.
Genesis Hospital is now ranked as a four-star hospital, a step up from their three-star ranking last year.
The ranking was for overall hospital quality as determined by the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS).
Dr. Daniel Scheerer, Chief Medical Affairs Officer at Genesis, said CMS created the system for scoring hospitals so the public could have some concept of how to compare their choices.
Dr. Scheerer said the hospital is excited to be upgraded to a four-star.
“We feel it’s a testament to a lot of work that’s been done by many people across the organization,” said Dr. Scheerer.
The ranking system covers a large range of issues, some of those being cost of care of care, mortality rate and safety. However, Dr. Scheerer said he thinks patient satisfaction had the biggest impact.
“In the last year we’ve seen our patient satisfaction scores go up a lot and that’s been really truly gratifying and we’ve been very excited about that,” said Dr. Scheerer.
Roughly 20% of hospitals across the nation receive a four-star rating and about 2% receive a five-star rating.
