ZHS JROTC Fundraises to Honor Fallen Veterans

ZANESVILLE, OH — In a nationwide ceremony, a local JROTC program is doing their part.
The Zanesville High School JROTC program is hosting their 12th annual fundraiser to sell wreaths in honor of those veterans that were lost in our area. Brad McCune, location coordinator for Wreaths Across America and Parker Roberts, Zanesville High Schools JROTC Battalion Commander got the chance to talk about the wreath sales.
“Here at the high school we hold fundraisers for these which you can find on our website. We have sold quite a few,” said Roberts.
“We are approaching 500 for this years service the largest ever. We have never had that many wreaths. I think this week I looked was 462 so we are very close to reaching the full goal of 500,” added McCune.
This fundraising event is in partnership with the Wreaths Across America foundation. The wreath sales are still ongoing and end on November 20th for this years service. McCune says that any wreaths ordered after that date will go towards next years service.
“It’s a great opportunity to come together here at the Christmas time and remember those veterans who have served their country,” said McCune.
“We like to doing it to get recognition for not just us but for the school, I think it’s a great opportunity to get the cadets more involved with the community,” said Roberts.
Wreaths for this fundraiser are 15 dollars, the laying ceremony will take place December 16th at the Greenwood Cemetery at 12. They will be placed along side the gravestones of each branch of the military’s fallen veterans to honor them. For more information or to order a wreath visit Wreaths Across America’s website.
