Local Kmart Closing

Sears Holding Company announced a local Kmart store will close its doors to the public in April.
The Maysville Pike Kmart will begin liquidation sales start January 24, but officials say the store will remain open until mid-April.
The store has 47 employees, which will be eligible to receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.
A spokesperson for Sears Holdings said the store closures come as part of a series of actions it’s taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust their asset base and accelerate the transformation of their business model.
Customers with layaway contracts have two options, the first is to pay off the contract early or transfer their layaway contract to a neighboring store or online. This can be done by an associate in-store.
