Local Law Enforcement: 17 years after 9/11 attacks

Lutz

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – It is the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and local law enforcement have become the front line of fighting terrorism.

There are multiple forms of terrorism in today’s world and Sheriff Lutz wants people to really remember that if anyone sees something out of character, say something. He wants to remind everyone that even though it is a small town, things can happen in Zanesville, Ohio too.

“We are always trying to preach that little towns like Zanesville, Ohio are where people can live, kind of hide, kind of stay out of the limelight of the big city. They can gather supplies, they can gather money, they can gather supporters to do terrorism type things,” Lutz said.

Law enforcement wants to keep people in the community safe and to always remain aware and to stay vigilant. Lutz said with a population of 86,000 people they can’t be everywhere at every time so they depend on the public for tips and information.

“There’s a lot of different reasons why somebody doesn’t come forward. Their afraid of retribution, their just afraid of getting involved, they don’t want to overstep their bounds,” Lutz said. “My advice to them is, how are they going to feel if something happens and maybe even somebody close to them gets hurt and they could have done something about it?”

Sheriff Lutz said he wants people to remember this is their community and to take charge and report information. You can report anonymously by calling the Police Station (740) 455-0700 or the Sheriff’s office (740) 455-7134 or you can go to their website.
