Local Leaders get a Pick-me Up

Local leaders get an emotional boost Friday morning from a one time local leader at Bryan Place.

Jim Mahoney spoke with business owners about running their companies in a positive way. Most importantly he said  leadership is a verb, which doesn’t only apply to those in a formal position.

"I think it’s important for a leader to be separated from the work of the organization," explained Dr. James Mahoney the executive director of Battelle Toys. "A person in a formal role has an influence over the things that occur, but there’s also people that don’t have the formal role that have a great influence."

In today’s economy Dr. Mahoney believes it’s important to take a proactive approach and there’s one word that stands out.

"Doing," he stated. "There’s a lot of definitions. There’s one that used today that I always like that Dwight Eisenhower talked about, it’s getting people to do what you want them to do because they wan to do it."

Dr. Mahoney was also presented with an ward for his of influencing Muskingum County leaders over the years. He served as a superintendent of schools in the area and now is the Executive Director at Battelle For Kids in Columbus.
