Local Man Continues Christmas Tradition

Believe it or not, there’s only 54 days until Christmas and one local man is already preparing for his long running light show.

Thurman Drake also known as the ‘Santa Claus Man’, ‘Santa’s House’ and even the ‘Light’s Man’, has been building an elaborate holiday lighting display at his home for 30 years.

Drake said it’s something his entire family helps with and he loves to see local kids faces when they drive through to see the show.

“Well as I’ve gotten older I can’t stay out like I used to so when the little guys come I stay out to about 7:30 to 8 p.m. then I go in and I just wave at them through the window,” said Drake.

Drake said the motivation for this twinkling show goes back to his childhood, when he wasn’t so fortunate.

“Well I was born poor and we had to make all of own things and I guess that all stuck with me,” said Drake. I’m a thinker and I like to make things. It just kind of hung over i guess,” Drake said.

Drake said he charges no admission, he just wants to spread Christmas cheer the best way he knows how.

You can visit Drake’s lighting display will officially illuminate Thanksgiving night at 5:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. and will glow until the Saturday following Christmas. Just go to 1718 Chandlersville Rd. Zanesville, OH 43701.
