Local Resident Celebrates Their 99th Birthday

Some residents of New Concord celebrated a very special birthday Saturday.

Mary Hamilton turns 99-years old on Monday, January 18th and to kick-start her birthday several of her close friends, family, and neighbors came out to Evergreen Village to help her celebrate.

“It is such a rare privilege in this time to be able to celebrate the birth of someone who has been alive for 99 years and see all of the things that she has gone through over the years. The different stages of life and to be able to talk with her about it and have her keep up with us is telling us all this is new, this is new and to see all of the things that she has done. Not everyone gets to do that with their parents. I’m just so glad that I have my mom this long,” said Joyce Hall.

Hamilton’s father was apart of the missionary in India where she was born and raised until she was 10-years old. She then moved to America. Hamilton said she has had a very happy life and she considers herself to be very blessed.

“It’s my 99th Birthday, I never would’ve believed it.

When asked what her secret is to a long and happy life Hamilton said,

“I would just say it was the grace of God. It wasn’t anything that I done. I just take one breath and he gives me give me one, I just breath in and breath out,” said Mary Hamilton.

Hamilton said her birthday wish is to able to tell more people about Christ.
