Local School Showing NFL Team Pride

Schools nationwide are showing their NFL team pride.

Maysville Elementary School gathered it’s fifth grade students to do just that. The school is competing with others across the country to win the NFL Play 60 health and wellness grant. 34 schools will be chosen and will recieve a visit from an NFL player and $10,000.

"Sixty percent of our children used free and reduced lunch so we want to implement some things in our school to get fruits and vegetables to our kids in the afternoon for a snack maybe once a week," said Christy Retton who works at the Maysville Elementary School Clinic.

The school is required to submit three essays and six photos of students participating in physical activities. All of the kids wore their favorite team’s jersey.

"It’s hard because the big thing today was the Browns and Steeler’s rivalry so that was really fun, we had fun with that. But everyone wants their player to come, but I have a feeling it’ll either be a Bengal, Brown or Steeler’s [player] because it’ll be close," said Retton.

The health and wellness grant is a part of the NFL Play 60 campaign promoting children to spend 60 minutes a day being active.
