ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Zanesville City schools welcomed their students in for the first day of school, but one elementary welcomed with style.

National Road Elementary chooses a theme every year for their school decorations and programs, this year the theme is Hollywood. Assistant Principal Chad Kiser explained this year the staff decided to go all out and make the students feel like stars.

“We built six-foot letters on the hillside like the California Hollywood sign and we wanted to lay the red carpet out with the stanchions like they were going to the Oscars,” Kiser said. “We had all the teachers out here taking pictures being like the paparazzi. So we just wanted the students to feel special today, come to school, and have a great time.”

The students got out of their cars or unloaded the buses there were some mixed emotions. However in the end the emotion that lingered was excitement.

“When the kids got off the bus this was the first time they saw it and they were so excited to be here,” Kiser said. “It just makes them feel a little more at ease, the ones that are nervous, especially the smaller kids this is the first time they’re coming to the school. So it was a great relax for them to come in here and just feel secure here, feel safe, have a good time, and know school is going to be fun this year. They’re going to learn a lot, but have a good time doing it.

After the students find their home room the Hollywood themed entrance won’t end.

“All the teachers have decorated their rooms in Hollywood themes, so they have scheduled events in their classrooms that the kids will really enjoy and have a great time,” said Kiser.

Kiser shared that National Road Elementary will continue the Hollywood theme throughout the school year with assemblies already being set up, extracurriculars planned, and three Hollywood themed dances have been scheduled.
